  2. Fri. 8pm April 9 : The song "Ô Mercy! no mercy…Hymne à la vie, blues paradoxal " is the premise of the "Mandingo POP Epic" that the Guinean griot Karamba DIOUBATE and his accomplice, the European accordionist Pitch'Mi, carry. The Mandingo musician-singer is the direct bearer of the Mandé Charter « Kouroukan Fouga » c. 1200: The Mandingo declaration of human rights, UNESCO’s ‘intangible heritage of humanity’ since 2009. DOO MANDINGUE tries to be a contemporary form, but it is also the brotherhood of Karamba DIOUBATE and Michel PICHON, who became Pitch'Mi ☺️This artistic moment is followed by a presentation of Martine LEVY-GOUGENHEIM on the history of Building Peace Cultures and int’l institutions, her career w/UNESCO in the Girl Scouts/Guides Movement, and founding a homeless girls’ school in Ivory Coast. 5. Fri. 8pm April 30 : Dance interpretation by former prima ballerina Kasumi Sanada-RYU to guitar music by Fernando SOR (using recording of ‘Fantasy in C Minor’ played by Lou Marinoff from his "Classical Journey" CD). This will segue into presentation by The City College of New York Professor Lou MARINOFF himself ! This founding president of the ‘American Philosophical Practitioners Association’ and bestselling author of Plato Not Prozac, will discuss his soon-to-be-published historical novel, a humanly moving, gripping story of the life and work of Fernando SOR. Composer and guitarist from Spain, Fernando SOR lived during the Napoleonic wars, including years in France and Russia while meeting the great von GOETHE, BERLIOZ, HUGO, among others. In inviting the professor to speak, we thought about what this breath-taking tale of an engaged artist for human dignity and the ‘Age of Enlightenment,’ could mean to us in our challenging epoch. (primarily in French)
